Enhanced Pharmacy Services
Helping to enhance the quality of your life.

Enhanced services have been introduced into community pharmacy to assist the NHS in improving and delivering a better level of care in the community.

The Local Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) review the healthcare needs in their area and commission (setup) services to meet these needs. Pharmacies are in the forefront of providing these services. Some services have begun in some PCT areas, and others are being introduced over a period of time. Eventually community pharmacies will provide a wide and diversified range of Enhanced Services within their local communities.

Examples of some of the presently commissioned services are as follows:

Some PCTs identified an increase in teenage pregnancies in their area and hence commissioned pharmacies to supply the NHS Emergency Hormonal Contraception for 13 to 19 year olds in that area.

In some areas, the PCTs feel that GP waiting times are too high and hence commissioned pharmacists to prescribe for patients' minor ailments.

In other areas smoking cessation, needle exchange and supervised methadone dispensing take priority.

We provide enhanced services in our branches as commissioned by the PCT in that area. We will keep you updated of new services as and when these are introduced.

These are just some of the enhanced services provided by Britannia Pharmacy.
